Helpful Hints for Your Tour

We want to be sure you enjoy your visit to Christmas City, so here are some hints that will help:

Watch the forecast and dress accordingly. It can get very cold – especially when you’re waiting in line.

When you get here, there will probably be a line. Lines generally run about 30 minutes, but can be an hour or more sometimes. Please be patient – we think it’s worth the wait.

But it’s not all bad. While you’re in line,  you’ll have lots of visitors – musicians, singers, live animals, Roman centurions on horses – lots of things to keep you entertained.

Parking is free and we have lots of space. But we still encourage carpooling as much as possible. We have come very close to filling up in recent years.

Your tour will be led by the prophet Isaiah. You’ll stop and see several scenes as you move through the city. Be sure to press in close to hear the dialogue. We don’t use microphones since there are often several scenes happening at once – and we’re pretty sure they didn’t have them in ancient Bethlehem.

If you have any questions, please use our contact form and we’ll respond as soon as possible.

Why we do Christmas City

Christmas in America is a funny thing. In the name of celebrating the birth of Christ, we run around like crazy people spending money on things we really don’t need and spend time fighting crowds, wrestling over the hottest toys and generally missing the point.

About 16 years ago, our little church had a vision for a giant city full of actors and animals and visitors. We wanted it to be free. We wanted it to be an escape from the frantic rush of the holidays. And most of all, we wanted it to be a place where people could hear the real story of Christmas.

That’s how we got started. Now Christmas City is a San Antonio tradition. Through the years, more than 35,000 people have come to visit. We hope you’ll come this year – or come back – and take some time to remember what’s important. Load up your family and friends. It may be some of the best time you spend together this Christmas.

Meet your tour guide

Dave Carmony is one of the actors portraying Isaiah at Christmas City 2011Meet Isaiah – your guide through Christmas City. The town will be crazy busy since King Herod has called a census, so be sure to stay close to him.

He’ll show you around and introduce you to a huge cast of characters. Tours last about 20-30 minutes. Be sure to dress warm – the line to get in can get pretty long. But it’s worth the wait. And you’ll have plenty to keep you busy – even as you wait in line.

Thanks to Beckey Zimmerman for allowing us to use the photos she took at last year’s event.
